Coming Soon! A New Podcast Series on Debt, Development, and Reparations

African Futures Lab and the African Forum and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD) (external link) are partnering to launch a new six-part podcast series as part of the Future Perfect | Futures Antérieur Podcast. (external link)

The series titled "Decolonizing Africa's Debt and Reclaiming her Future: A Reparative Approach" explores what economic justice for Africa could look like in the context of today’s financial crises, which are shaped by a long history of colonial and imperial exploitation.

Set against the African Union’s Decade of Reparations, 2026–2036, the series examines the deep historical and structural roots of Africa’s debt crisis, tracing how centuries of extraction, enslavement, and colonial dispossession continue to shape today’s global economic order.

Through sharp and accessible conversations, the podcast connects the dots between sovereign debt, climate injustice, and gender inequality, showing how these crises are interconnected and mutually reinforcing. Centering African and diasporic voices from activists and scholars to policymakers and frontline communities the series challenges dominant narratives and places lived experience, agency, and repair at the forefront.

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment by African Futures Lab and AFRODAD to advance an African-led reparative agenda that moves beyond critique and toward reimagining economic sovereignty. Beyond the podcast, both organizations will also undertake joint advocacy actions aimed at translating these conversations into concrete policy engagement and movement-building efforts.

More than a podcast, this is a platform for shifting narratives, strengthening movements, and equipping audiences with the tools to demand transformative change.

Stay tuned.
