March 2025 | 2025 report of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

This submission was developed in response to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights' call for inputs for the 2025 report under Human Rights Council resolution 47/21. The resolution mandates transformative change for racial justice, specifically focusing on reparatory justice for the legacies of colonialism and enslavement. Our contribution examines Belgium's colonial history through the lens of the systematic abduction of 'Métis' children in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, and Rwanda between 1885 and 1962.

Drawing on our April 2024 research report, "70 Years of Fighting for Justice and Reparations (external link)!", this submission highlights the ongoing mobilization and demands for justice by Métis communities from the Great Lakes region.
