The African Futures Lab participated in the Climate Reparations Symposium at the University of Montréal.
Our Climate Research and Policy Advisor, Dr. Patrick Toussaint (external link), presented our research on the climate justice and equity implications of the US climate superfunds and the potential to develop strict liability instruments for affected communities in the Global South, a work in progress with Adrian Martinez Blanco and José Daniel Rodríguez-Orúe
Our contribution was part of a stimulating panel on Financing Reparations & LossAndDamage moderated by the Camille Martini with insightful contributions from Francesca Leucci, PhD (on quantifying climate damages) Matthias Petel (on structural reform of the global financial architecture) Yago Freire (on the World Bank's role) and Anna Pedrajas (on non-economic loss and damage).
